My truck bed is aluminum, so magnets won't stick. Will The Rack work in my truck?

Yes, The Rack is designed to work with aluminum (and composite) beds by using the included steel mounting plates. Attach the plates to your bed, and the rack’s magnets attach to those plates—not to the bed itself. The quarter-inch steel plates provide a consistent steel surface and deliver strong holding power across all truck models.

Do I have to use the included mounting plates?

Not necessarily — if your truck bed is steel, you can skip the mounting plates. However, we highly recommend using them for maximum strength. Without them, the magnets’ holding power depends entirely on your truck bed’s steel thickness and any bed liner material. Our ¼” thick mounting plates deliver up to 10× stronger attachment compared to mounting the magnets directly to the bed.

Should I wear gloves when installing The Rack?

Yes. We recommend wearing gloves whenever handling the magnets included with The Rack. These magnets are extremely powerful and will snap together or to nearby metal with significant force. Without proper caution and PPE, this can result in serious injury. Always wear high-quality gloves when working with these magnets.

What should I do if the magnets get stuck together?

If the magnets snap together, they can be separated safely with the right technique. Do not try to pull them apart — instead, slide them apart. The easiest method is to secure one magnet in a bench vise (or something similar) and use a soft mallet to gently “knock” the other magnet sideways until they separate.
Warning: Once separated, handle the magnets carefully. Keep them apart and ensure they don’t snap back together or attach unexpectedly to other objects — this can cause serious injury.

Is the included JB Weld a strong adhesive?

Yes, the included JB Weld provides a reliable, heavy-duty bond for attaching the flat bars to your truck bed. While you’re free to use any adhesive or fasteners you prefer, we include JB Weld so you can install The Rack right away without making an extra trip to the store.

How long should I let the JB Weld set before attaching The Rack?

While the JB Weld begins to set within a few minutes, we recommend waiting a full 24 hours before attaching the magnets for maximum adhesive strength. Take your time when positioning the flat bars — after 5-10 minutes, the bond becomes extremely strong, and removing the bars can be very difficult.

Can I remove the mounting plates after the JB Weld has cured?

JB Weld creates a very strong, nearly permanent bond. Once installed with JB Weld, the mounting plates are intended to be permanent. While removal is possible with specialized techniques, it is difficult and may damage the truck bed.

How much JB Weld should I use when installing each of the mounting plates?

Use enough JB Weld to create a solid, cushioned bond between the mounting plate and the truck bed. A thin layer can weaken the connection and may cause the plate to separate under heavy use. Apply a generous, even layer to each plate. When you press the plate into place, you should see a slight “squish” of epoxy pushing toward the edges. Think of it like spreading cream cheese on a bagel, not butter on toast. Proper application should use nearly all of the provided JB Weld.

Can I use The Rack as a tie-down point for ratchet straps?

No. The Rack is not designed to be used with ratcheting straps in any capacity.

Can I use The Rack as ramps to load and unload equipment into my truck / trailer?

We do not recommend using The Rack for any purpose other than organizing your favorite items in the back of your truck.  It is not designed for any other purpose.

Where can I purchase The Rack?

The Rack is always available through our website. You can also find it in person at select trade shows and through approved vendors near Tulsa, OK.

How do I remove The Rack after it has been installed?

The easiest way to remove The Rack is by grabbing and lifting straight up on the main body. This will cause the magnets to begin lifting off at an angle, breaking the strong connection and allowing removal. Another way to remove The Rack is to unscrew the eye nuts on both magnets by hand, allowing The Rack to disconnect from the magnets. This method will leave the magnets installed in the truck.

What tools will I need to assemble The Rack?

The only tools you’ll need are 3/8” and 7/16” wrenches or sockets to tighten the nuts and bolts. If you only have one of the two sizes, you can still get the job done — use your fingers to hold the opposite bolt or nut until the self-locking flanges grip into the material and you no longer need to hold the other side.

How are other people using The Rack?

One of the best things about this product is its versatility. It has been used to hold items near the side wall of the truck bed such as firewood, gas cans, tools, groceries, camping gear, and many others. Another popular use is attaching items to the patterned cutouts (like a Molle system) using bungee cords or twist ties. The long length of the rack allows you to horizontally mount larger items such as shovels, rakes, and anything else that fits in your truck bed. You can even attach larger items like ice chests to the outside of the rack using bungee cords or other non-ratcheting options.
