What is it they say… “Necessity is the mother of invention”? Well, that is how we got started.  I was just getting into overlanding and needed a way to tie recovery equipment to my truck.  I found rails that would store recovery equipment and were also designed to accommodate a rooftop tent.  The only problem was that I was never going to use one of those rooftop tents (I am 60 and get up too many times during the night to answer Nature’s call).  But what about the recovery equipment, how was I going to store that?  The rails were a great solution, so I started looking and found that they were expensive. Also, these rails would be permanent.  If I wanted to use my truck to transport anything large, I would not be able to get it in my truck because the rails would be in my way.  So then I thought, “I wonder if a fishing magnet would stick to the bed of my truck?  Could I make a detachable rail?”  I drew up a sketch of what I was thinking and took it to a friend who built the first rack.   It was built specifically for my truck, and I could take it out when I was not using it.  I had a camping trip coming up and tried out my racks.  They were perfect!  I had room for all my camping equipment and they kept everything organized and easily accessible.  I was able to pack for three days of camping and had room to spare…and that was with a solo stove fire pit in the mix!  I showed the rack to other overlanders on that trip and the feedback I got was very positive.  Before the camping trip, this was just an idea.  After the camping trip, it became an idea for a potential product.  But I knew I would not be able to do it alone.  So, I reached out to my son who is a mechanical engineer.  We had several conversations and adult beverages, and over the next couple of weeks, BADOTP was born.  The name is one of my favorite things about it.  It stands for Ben and Dad’s Overland Truck Parts. We formed this company together. Ben’s part is the design.  He does the prints, the instructions, all the social media and helps me with all the testing.  THE RACK has gone through 7 design changes since its inception, and we are working on more but we want to get THE RACK out to the public and see what the response really is.  If you purchase THE RACK, we consider you to be part of the BADOTP family.  And that is what we want…A product that will help family’s play together.  But there are many reasons you might want THE RACK, maybe it’s a great fit for your work, as well.  Many companies have tested THE RACK, and their response has been great.  Plumbers, electricians, and pool service companies have all used it and said it made their life much easier.  No matter how you use THE RACK, we hope that it has a positive effect on you and helps make things easier, better, and more fun.     -Wally
